This cell group is for those aged 55 years and above and/or those who have retired and are looking forward to some warm fellowship during the week. The group meets on Thursday mornings and aims to minister holistically to its participants.
For example, as an aid to physical well being, medical doctors have been invited to speak about the kind of physical exercises that are suitable for senior people.
On another occasion, a doctor came and advised on the category/amount of food supplements that should be taken. As an emotional aid, a well-known psychiatrist talked about depression, its known reasons and suggested treatment.
Social interaction is greatly encouraged. With this in mind, visits are made to the homes of the sick and periodically to old folks homes. Other excursions which have been organised were a trip to the "Cheong Fatt Tze" mansion in Georgetown, a visit to the sulphur hot springs in Perak, and a fragrant experience at the "Spice Garden" at Telok Bahang.
Last but not least, the spiritual aspect is of course included as well. We study Bible-based materials which are edifying and relevant to people in their senior years, such as a book by Welva Cook called "Coping With Crises In the Senior Years".
What is life without a song? These more serious events are oftentimes "peppered" with good music and songs. The Penang "Anchormen" and the "Joyous Tributes" have graced our meetings.
Each person has his/her birthday celebrated during cell time. At times like these, we are reminded of the quote, "Do not complain about growing old, many are denied the privilege".
Our prayer is "Lord, keep us sweet and let us look beyond the frets that life must hold, to see the glad eternal joys; Yes Lord, keep us sweet in growing old".
Come and join us for our senior activities!
When we meet: Thursday, 10.00am
