Georgetown South
History

Georgetown South was planted in the hearts of the leaders long before moving into the present premise in Relau.

Looking back, this part of the island was chosen following a survey by the pastors and deacons after their usual monthly Saturday morning prayer meeting in 1999. A core group was then called and officially commissioned in November the same year to start the new work. Their immediate task was to multiply the existing Bayan Baru CG so that it would have a minimum number of about 40 adults.

In the year 2000, the CG multiplied into two. While pressing on to achieve the target, a monthly Saturday evening service was started in 2001 within a borrowed premise of another church in Relau. This arrangement went on for about 6 months with an average attendance of 30. In June, a third CG was formed and by then we were already touching the "critical mass"of 40 people.

With the encouragement of the leadership, a place was soon spotted during one of the prayer walks around Relau and by September 2001, renovation work commenced on the rented premise. Upon completion, the first usage of the new premise was a combined prayer meeting with Central on 24 October 2001. Dedication service followed four days later. Georgetown South officially held its first worship service on 4 November 2001.

From then on, God has been faithfully adding to our number as we continuously serve Him in this place where He hasplanted us.
All praise and glory to Him!
